  1. Why did the pioneers have to take all their possessions?

 

  1. Who rode in the wagons and who walked alongside the wagons?

 

  1. What would a car trip across America be like today compared to how it was during the days of the pioneers? Give good clear comparisons for both time frames.

 

  1. How did the pioneers make butter during their wagon trip?

 

  1. What did the pioneers often see that showed them how dangerous their journey was?

 

  1. How did the pioneers keep their livestock from running away (or being stolen) at night?

 

  1. How many months had the wagon train in the narrative been “on the trail”?   How many miles had they traveled so far?     How many miles did they have left to travel?    What was the TOTAL distance between Missouri and where they were going?

 

  1. What did the pioneers have to do each morning before they left camp?

 

  1. If you had to leave your home and everything in it forever, and were allowed to pack only one bag no larger than the size of your backpack, what would you take with you? (Note: The place you’d be going to would have no stores and no one but your family would speak your language. You would have to learn a new language.)
